The Benue governor's Independence Day message paired a call for unity and responsible citizenship with an appeal for political support.
Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appealed to residents to keep supporting his administration, President Bola Tinubu's government and the All Progressives Congress (APC), The Sun reports.
The appeal came in his message for Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary on Thursday, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula. "I appeal to you to continue to support and cooperate with our administration, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress," Alia said.
The governor described the anniversary as a time to reflect on the country's journey and recommit to freedom, peace, unity and development. He said independence should also mean citizens taking part responsibly in governance, and that development in Benue would require patience, cooperation and responsible citizenship.
Alia thanked residents for their support during difficult periods, invited them to offer constructive suggestions to government, and urged peaceful relations across the state.
