Terms of Service
What you agree to by using Become, and what we owe you.
Draft pending legal review. These terms describe how the platform is actually run. They have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
What Become is
A public civic record: bills, budgets, elections, courts, the police, and what citizens say about them. We publish what we can verify and label what we cannot. Nothing here is an official government publication, and we are not affiliated with any party, campaign or candidate.
Endorsements are not votes
Endorsing an aspirant on Become is not casting a ballot. Real elections are physical, run by INEC, and counted separately. Platform endorsements measure sentiment among people using this app and nothing more. We keep the two numbers apart everywhere they appear, and always will.
Your account
- One account per person. Your PVC number is checked against the INEC register before you can endorse, sign or propose.
- Give a PVC that is not yours and the account goes, along with the actions taken with it.
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
- You can close your account whenever you like — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted.
What you post
Proposals, petitions, comments and protest listings are yours. You keep them; you give us permission to publish them on the platform. Do not post anything that is someone else's to post.
We remove content that incites violence, harasses a private individual, impersonates someone, or is knowingly false about a person. Criticising a public official's public conduct is not harassment, and we will not remove it for being uncomfortable.
Moderation
Anyone can flag content. A moderator reviews it and either leaves it up or takes it down, and every decision is logged. If yours is removed you will be told which rule it broke.
What we don't promise
Civic data comes from public sources and can be wrong, stale, or missing. We correct what we find and label what we are unsure of, but do not treat this platform as legal advice or as the authoritative record. For anything that matters legally, check the gazette, the court, or INEC directly.
Changes
If these terms change we will say so on the platform before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Become after that means you accept them. Questions go to the contact page.
