Ten former LG chairmen became Special Advisers and 1,710 others Executive Assistants as the state marked 30 years since its creation.
Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has appointed 1,720 aides, who were sworn in on Wednesday at the Abakaliki Township Stadium during events marking the state's 30th anniversary and Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary, Vanguard reports.
Ten immediate past local government chairmen were named Special Advisers and 1,710 others Executive Assistants. The governor also presented staffs of office to three traditional rulers, from Afikpo, Edda and Ishielu LGAs.
Setting out his record since 2023, Nwifuru said his government had built 39 model classroom blocks across the 13 LGAs, completed more than 1,000 kilometres of roads, and raised the monthly subvention to Ebonyi State University from N150 million to N280 million. Work on the Vanco flyover and tunnel is ongoing, he said.
"Thirty years of statehood is a celebration of our past, but it is also a responsibility to our future," the governor said, adding that government must also build trust and a culture of accountability.
