Protesters at the Oredo East meeting said they had been neglected after backing the governor's emergence in the 2024 election.
Youths disrupted an All Progressives Congress (APC) ward meeting in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, repeatedly interrupting an address by Governor Monday Okpebholo, The Guardian reports.
The meeting for Oredo East took place at Garrick Memorial along Ekewan Road. The protesters chanted "oppression", "no more neglect" and "no more use and dump", saying they had been abandoned after supporting the governor's emergence in the 2024 election. The interruptions forced the governor to stop speaking several times, and the meeting could not continue as planned.
A witness identified as Madam Esohe said the youths ignored appeals from party leaders. "The area was tense," she said.
At a separate meeting with party members at Ikaladerhan Primary School, Okada, in Ovia North East LGA, Okpebholo said President Bola Tinubu's reforms were difficult but necessary. He was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and APC state chairman Jarrett Tenebe. The report did not carry a response from the governor or the party to the protest.
