Toyin Okoro's campaign accused Rep. Rufus Ojuawo of undermining the party; Ojuawo denied any link to an ICPC petition against Okoro.
A dispute within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti South Federal Constituency I has escalated, with the party's candidate, Toyin Okoro, and the sitting lawmaker, AVM Rufus Ojuawo (rtd), trading accusations, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Okoro won the APC primary in May with 9,798 votes to Ojuawo's 1,842. The constituency covers Ikere, Ekiti South-West and Ise/Orun local government areas.
In a statement on Thursday, Okoro's campaign council accused Ojuawo of continuing to challenge the result and linked him to a protest against Okoro's candidacy. It urged him to use party mechanisms or the courts and to let the ICPC handle any petition independently. Reports in September said the ICPC had invited Okoro over allegations about his time as a legislative aide and links to a private company; these have not been established.
Ojuawo denied any role in the petition or the ICPC invitation and said he remains focused on his legislative work. "Political contests should end when the contest ends," he said.
