Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf says his administration has entered a phase of consolidating reforms and completing projects, in his Independence Day address to the people of the state, Voice of Nigeria reports.
He said the state's Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking made more than 380 arrests and secured over 230 convictions in its first two months. The government, he said, has paid about N32 billion of a N48 billion backlog of inherited gratuities and related liabilities, and raised the minimum monthly pension from N5,000 to N20,000.
Yusuf said more than 15,000 teachers had been recruited, over 300 primary healthcare centres renovated and more than 2,000 health workers given appointment letters. He cited the rehabilitation of the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants and the Goron Dutse Reservoir. The state's 2026 budget is about N1.47 trillion.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the governor urged residents to reject violence, division and intolerance, and to pray for peaceful, free, fair and credible polls.
