The former senator said his meeting with the governor was only to ask about the APC ticket, which he was told had gone to someone else.
Ayo Akinyelure, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ondo Central Senatorial District, has denied any political agreement with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Premium Times reports, citing Arise News.
Speaking at a media conference in Akure on Wednesday, the former senator said his recent meeting with the governor was to find out whether he could still get the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket. Photographs of the two after a church service at the Government House Chapel had fuelled talk of an alliance, which the governor had also denied.
"The governor told me they had already considered who they wanted to give the ticket to and that I could not get it," Akinyelure said, adding that he thanked the governor for being honest with him.
Akinyelure, who represented Ondo Central in the 7th and 9th National Assemblies, left the APC for the ADC in May, saying he had been denied a fair chance to contest. He said voters from any party who felt he had represented them well could vote for him.
