Governor Adeleke ordered an environmental task force to assess affected areas and urged residents to stop dumping refuse in drains.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered Osun's Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation to visit communities hit by flooding and draw up a response plan, after days of heavy rain, Premium Times reports.

About 1,000 households have reportedly been affected, with some residents displaced. Osogbo, the state capital, is among the worst hit, especially Ijetu, Isale Osun and Oke Osun, where homes, hotels, schools and business premises were submerged.

In a post on X, Adeleke said his administration had already carried out initial dredging and drainage work and would take further measures. The task force, led by Elder Aina, was inaugurated on Tuesday to enforce environmental laws and tackle the dumping of waste in drains.

The governor urged residents to stop dumping refuse in waterways and roadside drains, to avoid building on natural water channels and flood-prone corridors, and to report blocked drains and other hazards to the authorities.
