Represented by his deputy in Ibadan, the governor cited the Amotekun Corps and projects across the state's five zones.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged residents to remain united despite current challenges, regardless of religious or ethnic differences, Leadership reports.
Makinde, represented by Deputy Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, spoke on Thursday at the 66th Independence anniversary celebration at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan. The event's theme was "Dealing Decisively with Insecurity, Banditry and Terrorism Through Community Participation, Awareness and Policing".
He said Nigeria's more than 250 ethnic groups should see their diversity as a strength, and that the anniversary called for sober reflection on the challenges facing both the country and Oyo State.
On security, the governor pointed to the Amotekun Corps, which he said works with other agencies to keep the peace. He also cited road networks, schools, hospitals and the Light Up Oyo State project across the state's five zones: Oke-Ogun 1 and 2, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibarapa and Ibadan.
