The interim order follows a suit by aspirant Alfred Dapal, who says he won the party's 15 September nomination; hearing resumes 5 October.

The Federal High Court in Jos has restrained Jonathan Akuns from presenting himself as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Plateau State for the 2027 election, Premium Times reports.

Justice S.T. Ishaya made the order on 28 September on an ex parte application by Alfred Dapal, a governorship aspirant. The suit, FHC/J/CS/87/2026, names Akuns, the NDC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants.

Dapal says he was the candidate produced at the NDC's nomination exercise on 15 September at the party secretariat in Dogon Karfe, Jos North LGA. He is asking the court to stop the party from replacing him or sending Akuns' name to INEC, and to stop INEC from accepting it. He has also asked for an accelerated hearing because of pre-election timelines.

The judge ruled that the application succeeded in part and adjourned the case to 5 October. The order is interim and does not settle the dispute over the party's ticket.
