The commission urged registered voters in Sokoto to collect their cards at designated centres and rely only on official INEC channels.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State has announced 9 October 2026 as the start date for registered voters in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), Nigerian Tribune reports.
The commission's Public Affairs Officer, Hassan Sarki Gendane, said in a statement on Thursday that eligible citizens should collect their cards at designated centres and trust only official INEC channels for information about the elections.
INEC said it would conduct elections in line with the law and make sure every vote is accounted for. It asked voters to trust the process, reminded them of their right to choose candidates freely, and called on citizens to keep the peace and respect the rule of law.
The statement was issued as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence anniversary. Voters need a PVC to vote in the presidential and National Assembly elections on 16 January 2027 and the governorship and state assembly elections on 6 February 2027.
