Rufai Sani Hanga, an accountant, was elected senator for Kano Central in 2023 on the NNPP platform and served as Deputy Minority Whip. He moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress in May 2026, resigned from it on 3 August 2026, and was received into the APC in Kano in September 2026.
